The Jazz Institute of Chicago is happy to partner with Fulton Street Collective to celebrate International Jazz Day, with musical artists who’ve come to enrich Chicago’s mix from afar.
As a culmination of Jazz Appreciation Month, we proudly present the multi-cultural diversity of local jazz expression, as some of our favorite players touch on their ties to their native lands while making music of the here and now. Join us on a 90-minute virtual guided tour in which echoes of Chile, Japan, Italy, Pakistan, Peru, Poland, Puerto Rico, Venezuela are stirred into the sounds of our city -all without leaving the comforts of home!
Chicago’s award-winning artist Tatsu Aoki presents a journey of Asian American cultural diaspora and music legacy with “THE AOKIs.” The duet work embodies the true cultural and familial lineage and represents multi-generational musical tradition of Japanese American creative music.
Tatsu Aoki – bass | Kioto Aoki – taiko drums
